About Us

The Great Western Chorus of Bristol (GWC) was formed in 1974 following inspiration from a touring American chorus, The GWC has been bringing joy and entertainment to British, European and American audiences ever since, with its unique blend of 50-plus unaccompanied male voices, performing wonderful close harmony arrangements.

We perform songs from across the whole spectrum of popular music, from Rat Pack classics to more contemporary songs by Lady GaGa and Clean Bandit, as well as unforgettable show-stoppers from the world of musical theatre and inspirational/sacred songs.

We have performed at prestigious venues on many occasions, most notably The Colston Hall, Bristol, The Royal Albert Hall (twice), The Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, The London Coliseum, The Barbican (with The Swingle Singers), and The Royal Festival Hall. In addition, television appearances have enabled the Chorus to build a solid reputation for entertainment to the highest standard.

The GWC competes regularly in local, national and international music festivals and has won the British Association of Barbershop Singers' Championship on a record ten occasions (most recently in May 2017) and has never been placed outside of the top five nationally! The chorus has represented the UK in the World Chorus Championships, in Anaheim (2009) and Kansas City (2011).
