The Great Western Chorus is a male-voiced singing group of around 30 members that rehearses in Bristol and performs wherever required. With roots in classic barbershop style, we have grown to a broad repertoire of songs from film, musical theatre, folk, pop, and even the odd 8-part arrangement.
We compete in local competitions, typically at music festivals, national competitions, such as the Llangollen Eisteddfod and the British Association of Barbershop Singers (BABS) National Convention, and, on three times, representing the UK internationally at the Barbershop Harmony Annual Convention in America. Historically, we have performed all over Euripe. We are the most successful male-voice choir at BABS, having won it ten times, and have won the Mid-Somerset Music Festival Male Voice section a record six times.
Our shows are always both a visual and musical feast as we perform songs - not just sing them - bringing them to life and exciting audiences.as they become involved in the whole performance. For our most recent major show, we brought the acclaimed New Fangled 4 quartet over from America in a joint show to celebrate our 50th Anniversary.
We don't stand still - in all senses. We strive to improve through coaching, learning and practise. Our own highly expereienced music team and external coaches continually work on our singing and performance skills and we pride ourselves on our increasing excellence in all things.
But it isn't all about quality singing performances - we are just a bunch of male identifiying people from Bristol and the surrounding areas. We have fun, enjoy the friendship we have but with commitment, respect and inclusivity. Whether you just want to enjoy our performance or fancy joining us, you will always be welcome.
